Retirement Temporary Stay Permit index 319

For many years, the regulations and process for getting a retirement visa in Indonesia was a confusing and unclear. But things do improve and it's getting gradually easier. Bali is a great place to retire. Cost of living is very low, medical infrastructure decent while Singapore is quite nearby for more serious procedures, the weather is very pleasant, people are friendly and life is generally good here.
Many retirees are living in or near Sanur. It's more laid back there, infrastructure is very good, and foreigners have actually settled here already since the 70ies.

How it works

  • Make sure you collect all necessary documents so the visa agent can get to work. In case something is missing, get in touch with the agent beforehand.
  • Bali immigration will then issue a confirmation letter (usually within 75days) which you will need to collect the Visa at an Indonesian embassy abroad (not Indonesia!).
  • You need to let the agent know, at which Indonesian Embassy you wish to apply & collect the visa. Most people choose the Indonesian embassy in Singapore. They offer a 1 day service (extra fee). Processing the visa in other embassies abroad normally takes 4 – 7 working days for the embassy to release the visa, after the documents and passport have been submitted.

If you wish to stay in Bali during the process of the application it's good practice to apply for SOCIAL VISA 211 which can be extended if necessary, while the Telex for the retirement visa is in process.
