Konsulat Indonesia di luar Indonesia

What's the Difference between an Embassy and Consulate

For the normal traveler to Bali or any other place in Indonesia, when you seek assistance, there is almost no difference for you whether you approach an Indonesian embassy or consulate. Both, embassies and consulates are representative departments of Indonesia, but located outside of Indonesia.

The main difference is, an Embassy is the representation with an "Ambassador", and because there is only one Indonesian Ambassador for a specific country, there usually also only one Embassy in one country - provided Indonesia and the other country have such diplomatic ties. This means also, not every country has an Indonesian Embassy, but it could have an Indonesian consulate, providing similar services. Because, the Indonesian Ambassador is the highest ranking official representing Indonesia, an Indonesian Embassy is therefore also regarded as to be "higher" than a consulate.

For the common tourist and traveler both will in essence provide the same service, which is mainly visa related from that perspective.
